Non-Tender Day: Meet the New Free Agents

With yesterday’s tender deadline, the following players are now free agents:

X-Men: Rowand Signs with San Francisco (NL)

Free agent centerfielder Aaron Rowand has signed a 5-year, $60 million contract with the San Francisco Giants.

X-Men can thus protect Rowand for 2008, with two years contract eligibility and a $14 salary.

X-Men: Renteria Traded to Detroit (AL)

Alex’s big trade from last season looks even weaker now that Edgar Renteria has been traded by the Braves to the Tigers (for Gorkys Hernandez and Jair Jurrjens). Alex commented that his trade with Nygard looks even worse. To recap:

To Nygard Contract To X-Men Contract
Ryan Braun $5 / 2 Edwin Encarnacion Expired
Troy Tulowitzki $10 / 2 Jeff Francoeur Expired
Luke Scott $5 / 1 Noah Lowry Expired
    Edgar Renteria AL
    Albert Pujols $52 / 2

Update (11/7/07): With the Phillies/Astros trade, it looks like Luke Scott is either going to be on the bench or traded, so Alex gets a little more balance here, but not much.
