Shoeless Jews: Hamilton Traded to Texas (AL)

The Cincinnati Reds traded OF Josh Hamilton to the Texas Rangers for P Edinson Volquez and minor league P Daniel Herrera.

Hamilton was removed from the Shoeless Jews roster and is now ineligible for protection for 2008.

Shoeless Jews: Jenkins Signs with Philadelphia (NL)

Free agent outfielder Geoff Jenkins signed a two-year, $13 million contract with a mutual vesting option for 2010 with the Philadelphia Phillies.  Jenkins will likely platoon with Jayson Werth.

Jenkins remains on the roster of Shoeless Jews, who can protect him for 2008 with two seasons and a salary of $11.

Shoeless Jews: Torrealba re-signs with Rockies

Free-agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba has reached agreement on a 2-year, $7 million deal with the Rockies, returning to his team from last season. Torrealba had reached preliminary agreement with the Mets two weeks ago, but that was quickly quashed.

Shoeless Jews can now protect Torrealba for 2008 with 2 years and $5 on his contract.

Shoeless Jews: Torrealba signs with Mets

Free agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba signed a 3-year deal with the Mets, even though he batted .212 away from Coors field last season. The Mets must have been looking at that 18% success in throwing out baserunners.

Torrealba remains protectable for the Shoeless Jews for 2008 with 2 years remaining and a $5 salary.

UPDATE [11/17/07]: Torrealba and the Mets actually are NOT getting together - someone got cold feet and backed out. It was even on the MLB Transactions page - so it was pretty official. Torrealba is now back as a free agent.

Phillies/Astros Trade: How Steve got a Closer for $1

A ho-hum trade from Rotiss perspective:

Phillies acquire: Brad Lidge, Eric Bruntlett

Astros acquire: Michael Bourn, Geoff Geary, and AA 3B Michael Costanzo

WBRL Impact:

Michael Bourn (Shoeless Jews) - GOOD - He gets a bump with (presumably) a starting CF and leadoff job, still a hitter’s park.

Brad Lidge (Goodfellas) - EVEN - He goes to another HR park, but for a winning team, so more save opps, but more crowd pressure. Is this the reciprocity for Mitch Williams circa 1994?

Luke Scott (Misogynistic Padres) - BAD - Presumably Scott gets bumped to 4th OF / bench, although rumors indicate he’ll be traded, which could help the situation, unless it’s in the AL.

Chad Qualls (Cover Zero) - GOOD - The de-facto closer for the Astros right now. For $1.
