Johan Santana is Coming to the Mets
Minnesota Twins pitcher Johan Santana is coming to the Mets in a 4-for-1 trade. The Mets currently are in a 72-hour negotiation window in an attempt to sign Santana to a multi-year contract extension. What’s the WBRL impact?
- Goodfellas: Lose pitching prospect Philip Humber
- Uncle Lester: Lose OF prospect Carlos Gomez
- Atomic Roadrunners: No impact, but P prospect Deolis Guerra was on the AaRr squad for a week in June of 2007, so at least they knew about him.

- Cover Zero loses Troy Patton
- Misogynistic Padres loses Luke Scott

Goodfellas: Loretta accepts arbitration
Free agent infielder Mark Loretta has accepted the Houston Astros’ offer of arbitration, and is signed for the 2008 season.
Loretta remains protectable for 2008 for Goodfellas, with two years remaining on his contract, and a $10 salary.
With Houston’s signing of Kaz Matsui, now Drew has two of the Astros’ second basemen. Perhaps he could swing a trade for Chris Burke.

Big Deal: Dontrelle and Miguel traded to the AL
In a 6-for-2 deal, the Detroit Tigers have acquired Marlins 3B Miguel Cabrera (The Pi Train) and P Dontrelle Willis (Goodfellas) in exchange for young CF Cameron Maybin, P Andrew Miller, and four prospects.
WBRL Impact:
- The Pi Train can no longer protect Cabrera for 2008, and he has been removed from The Pi Train roster.
- Goodfellas can no longer protect Willis for 2008, and he has been removed from the Goodfellas roster.
- Reports indicate that Marlins 2B Dan Uggla (Stanimals) will likely be moved to replace Cabrera at third base.
- Maybin will likely immediately slot into CF, de-valuing current CF Alejandro De Aza (Misogynistic Padres)

Phillies/Astros Trade: How Steve got a Closer for $1
A ho-hum trade from Rotiss perspective:
Phillies acquire: Brad Lidge, Eric Bruntlett
Astros acquire: Michael Bourn, Geoff Geary, and AA 3B Michael Costanzo
WBRL Impact:
Michael Bourn (Shoeless Jews) - GOOD - He gets a bump with (presumably) a starting CF and leadoff job, still a hitter’s park.
Brad Lidge (Goodfellas) - EVEN - He goes to another HR park, but for a winning team, so more save opps, but more crowd pressure. Is this the reciprocity for Mitch Williams circa 1994?
Luke Scott (Misogynistic Padres) - BAD - Presumably Scott gets bumped to 4th OF / bench, although rumors indicate he’ll be traded, which could help the situation, unless it’s in the AL.
Chad Qualls (Cover Zero) - GOOD - The de-facto closer for the Astros right now. For $1.
