Atomic RoadRunners: Ensberg Dons Pinstripes (AL)

Free agent 3B Morgan Ensberg has reached agreement with the New York Yankees on a minor-league contract with a Spring Training NRI for the 2008 season. Once Carl Pavano and his ilk are placed on the 60-Day DL, Ensberg will be added to  the 40-man roster.  Ensberg, who was traded from Houston to San Diego following the Astros’ acquisition of Ty Wigginton last July, will compete for the vacancy at 1B and serve as a backup, caddy, and personal valet to incumbent 3B Alex Rodriguez.

Ensberg has been removed from the Atomic Roadrunners’ roster as he is no longer eligible for protection for the 2008 season.

The Pi Train: Gonzo Goes Fishing, Signs with Marlins (NL)

Free agent outfielder Luis Gonzalez has signed a one-year, incentive-laden contract with the Florida Marlins.  Gonzalez will make $2 million, with another $1 million for additional plate appearances.

The Pi Train retains the rights to Gonzo, who can be protected for $1 for the next two seasons.

The Pi Train: Estrada Signs with the Nationals (NL)

Free agent catcher Johnny Estrada signed a one-year contract with the Washington Nationals for $1.25 Million.  Estrada was traded earlier this offseason from Milwaukee to the New York Mets for Guillermo Mota, and subsequently non-tendered, making him a free agent.  It’s essentially a 2-for-1 swap, as New York traded for Washington C Brian Schneider (and OF Ryan Church in exchange for OF Lastings Milledge), and Washington has signed both Estrada and the Mets’ catcher from 2007, Paul LoDuca.

The Pi Train retains the rights to Estrada, and he remains eligible for protection with a $12 salary for two seasons.

Stanimals: Pedro Feliz Signs with Phillies (NL)

Free agent 3B Pedro Feliz has agreed to a two-year contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.  It’s about time Philadelphia did something, as there’s been a Wes Helms / Greg Dobbs / Abraham Nunez black hole at the hot corner since the heyday of David Bell in the post-Rolen world.

Stanimals retains the rights to Feliz, who can be protected for 2008 with 2 years on his contract and a salary of $6.

Misogynistic Padres: Barajas Signs with Toronto (AL)

Free agent catcher Rod Barajas signed a one-year, $1.2 million contract with a club option for 2009 with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Uncle Lester: Valentin Re-Signs with Mets (NL)

Free agent 2B Jose Valentin has re-signed a minor-league contract with the New York Mets, with an invitation to Spring Training.  Valentin is rehabbing from a torn ACL, and won’t be ready for baseball activities until mid-to-late March.

Uncle Lester retains the rights to Valentin, who will cost $5 with 1 year remaining on his contract.

Misogynistic Padres: Hendrickson Now Marlins Ace (NL)

Free agent pitcher Mark Hendrickson has signed a contract with the Florida Marlins for the 2008 season, and immediately becomes one of the Marlins’ top starters.

The Misogynistic Padres retain the rights to Hendrickson, who will be protectable for 2008 at 2 years and $5.

Stanimals: Mike Cameron Signs with Brewers (NL)

Free agent OF Mike Cameron signed a one-year deal (with a 2009 club option) with the Milwaukee Brewers.  Cameron will miss the first 25 games of 2008, as he serves a suspension under the terms of baseball’s drug-testing program (non-performance-enhancing).

Stanimals retains the rights to Cameron, and can protect him for 2008 with a 2-year contract and a $22 salary.

Also affected by the signing is Misogynistic Padres, whose Rookie-of-the-Year 3B Ryan Braun will likely be moved to LF, and CF Bill Hall (also a Misogynistic Padre in 2007) will move to 3B, greatly improving the Brewers’ defense.

Cover Zero: Marcus Giles Signs with Colorado (NL)

Free agent 2B Marcus Giles has signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Rockies.  According to the Rocky Mountain News, the deal is said to be non-guaranteed and pending a physical.

Cover Zero retains eligibility to protect Giles for the 2008 season for 2 years at $12.

Uncle Lester: Olivo Signs with Kansas City (AL)

Free agent catcher Miguel Olivo signed a one-year contract with a mutual option for 2009 with the Kansas City Royals.  Olivo had been non-tendered by the Florida Marlins earlier this month.

Olivo has been removed from the Uncle Lester roster and is no longer eligible for protection for 2008.
