Cover Zero: Everett Signs with Minnesota (AL)

Newly-minted free agent Adam Everett has signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota Twins.  Everett was non-tendered by the Houston Astros yestersday.

Everett is no longer eligible for protection in the WBRL, and he has been removed from the Cover Zero roster.

Non-Tender Day: Meet the New Free Agents

With yesterday’s tender deadline, the following players are now free agents:

X-Men: Rowand Signs with San Francisco (NL)

Free agent centerfielder Aaron Rowand has signed a 5-year, $60 million contract with the San Francisco Giants.

X-Men can thus protect Rowand for 2008, with two years contract eligibility and a $14 salary.

Big Deal: Tejada to Houston for 5 guys

Baltimore Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada was traded to Houston in exchange for five guys.  Pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton, and Dennis Safarte, 3B Mike Costanzo (aquired from Philly in the Lidge trade) and OF Luke Scott.

Cover Zero: LoDuca Signs With Washington (NL)

Free agent catcher Paul LoDuca has signed a one-year contract with the Washington Nationals.

Thus, LoDuca can be protected by Cover Zero for the 2008 season with 2 years of eligibility and a $15 salary.

Goodfellas: Loretta accepts arbitration

Free agent infielder Mark Loretta has accepted the Houston Astros’ offer of arbitration, and is signed for the 2008 season.

Loretta remains protectable for 2008 for Goodfellas, with two years remaining on his contract, and a $10 salary.

With Houston’s signing of  Kaz Matsui, now Drew has two of the Astros’ second basemen.  Perhaps he could swing a trade for Chris Burke.

Get Off Kong!: Barrett accepts arbitration

Free agent catcher Michael Barrett has accepted the San Diego Padres offer of arbitration, and is signed for the 2008 season.

Barrett remains protectable for 2008 for Get Off Kong!, with one year remaining on his contract, and a $12 salary.

Get Off Kong!: Andruw Signs with Los Angeles (NL)

Free-agent Andruw Jones signed a two-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Jones will get a $12 million signing bonus, $9 million in 2008 and $15 million in 2009 under the terms of a two-year, $36 million contract

Jones remains protectable for 2008 for Get Off Kong! for 1 year and $26.

Misogynistic Padres: Boone signs with Nationals (NL)

Free-agent Aaron Boone signed a one-year, $1 million contract to be a reserve infielder for the Washington Nationals.

Boone remains protectable for 2008 for the Misogynistic Padres at 2 years and $5.

Big Deal: Dontrelle and Miguel traded to the AL

In a 6-for-2 deal, the Detroit Tigers have acquired Marlins 3B Miguel Cabrera (The Pi Train) and P Dontrelle Willis (Goodfellas) in exchange for young CF Cameron Maybin, P Andrew Miller, and four prospects.
