Misogynistic Padres: Nygard returns team name to roots

In what has become an annual tradition, owner Tim Nygard has announced that his team name for the upcoming 2008.  This year’s name will be “Misogynistic Padres”, harkening back to the days of yore (specifically 1994-2001).  The actual rundown:

Shoeless Jews: Torrealba re-signs with Rockies

Free-agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba has reached agreement on a 2-year, $7 million deal with the Rockies, returning to his team from last season. Torrealba had reached preliminary agreement with the Mets two weeks ago, but that was quickly quashed.

Shoeless Jews can now protect Torrealba for 2008 with 2 years and $5 on his contract.

Uncle Lester: Wood Signs to Stay in Chicago (NL)

Cubs relief pitcher Kerry Wood has signed a one-year, $4 million contract to stay with the Chicago Cubs. With some mention of incumbent closer Ryan Dempster moving to the rotation, Wood might be on-track to start the year as the new closer.

Wood is now eligible for protection for the 2008 season for 2 seasons at $10.

Get Off Kong!: Cordero Signs with Cincinnati

Closer Francisco Cordero has signed a four-year contract with the Cincinnati Reds. Cordero will receive $46 million over the life of the contact.

Cordero remains protectable for Get Off Kong! for 2008 with a $30 contract with 2 years remaining.

After checking the archives, it has been confirmed that Stanimals set a WBRL record during the 2007 season: Worst Season ERA: 5.09

Stanimals crushed the previous mark set by the 2001 Uncle Lester’s Jiggy Skanktasm squad and their 5.04 ERA.

Atomic Roadrunners: Linebrink signs with White Sox (AL)

Free agent Tom Glavine signed a 1-year, $8 million deal with the Braves today.

The Pi Train retains the rights to Glavine, who can be protected for 2 more seasons at $11

Shoeless Jews: Torrealba signs with Mets

Free agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba signed a 3-year deal with the Mets, even though he batted .212 away from Coors field last season. The Mets must have been looking at that 18% success in throwing out baserunners.

Torrealba remains protectable for the Shoeless Jews for 2008 with 2 years remaining and a $5 salary.

UPDATE [11/17/07]: Torrealba and the Mets actually are NOT getting together - someone got cold feet and backed out. It was even on the MLB Transactions page - so it was pretty official. Torrealba is now back as a free agent.

Uncle Lester: Jacque Jones Traded to Detroit (AL)

Uncle Lester loses OF Jacque Jones in an MLB trade. Jones was traded to Detroit for middle-infielder Omar Infante. Jones was removed from Uncle Lester’s roster, and is no longer eligible for protection for 2008.
